Brand Guidelines
How to present the BLACK& name and identity correctly in print and on screen.
- Wordmark, ampersand mark and colour variants
- Clear space and minimum size
- Colour system and typography
- Correct and incorrect use
Wordmark
The BLACK& wordmark is the primary identifier, and the ampersand is its signature element. Always use the supplied files. Never retype, redraw or modify the mark.
Colour
The palette is strictly monochrome. Keep applications in a single colour wherever possible, with no tints, gradients or metallic finishes.
Typography
Elegant, light and highly refined, echoing the contrast and restraint of the wordmark.
Display
Canela · Noe Display
Open-licence alternatives: Bodoni Moda, Cormorant Garamond. Uppercase, light weight, expanded tracking.
Headings & labels
Inter Light / ExtraLight · uppercase · wide tracking
Body & interface
Inter Light and Regular for running text. Medium for emphasis.
Usage
Preserve elegance through simplicity. Always write the name as BLACK&: capitals, the ampersand and no space between them.
Do
- Keep clear space around the wordmark equal to the height of the letter B
- Use white on black or black on white
- Use the mark at least 30 mm wide in print or 120 px on screen
- Use the ampersand mark when space is very limited
Don’t
- Stretch, distort, rotate or re-proportion the wordmark
- Add shadows, outlines, gradients or other effects
- Recolour the mark or place it on low-contrast or busy backgrounds
- Retype the name or separate the ampersand
Use of the BLACK& name and marks is welcome for editorial coverage, approved partnerships and events. Any other use requires written approval. For high-resolution files or questions, contact the media team.
